This site has been designed to fundraise for Paia's plastic bag free campaign,
and to share information to help spread the plastic shopping bag free movement.
We would like thank the town of Modbury
(plasticbagfree.com)
and the film Message in the Waves
(messaginthewaves.com)
for inspiring this project. We would also like to thank Iokepa Naeole for teaching Maui youth a Hawaiian
perspective of ecology and the dangers of plastic pollution in the ocean.
This campaign is to encourage people to bring re-usable shopping bags. On
average we use each plastic bag for approximately 12 minutes before disposing.
It then lasts in the environment for decades (500-1,000 years). Together we
can reduce our use of plastic shopping bags and
can make a difference.
We are working collectively to replace the plastic bag with re-usable and
biodegradable alternatives. Ultimately we hope people form new habits and
remember to bring their own bag, but for those unexpected purchases we will
be offering BioBags which are GMO free and break down in under 45 days.

You
can re-use a BioBag over and over again, they hold up great even in the rain.
However, please do NOT re-cycle BioBags they are meant to breakdown in our landfills
and ideally in a compost setting. BioBags are identified

with
their logo printed on the bag and with this little green logo. Look for this
compost logo on other products that are also meant for compost not for re-cycling.

We
have placed the first order the Paia town re-usable bags in order to sustain
the campaign. Each JUTE bag is certified fair trade made in Bangladesh by
workers who receive a fair wage. Our Paia Shopper is perfect for shopping
for multiple items/beach bag (size: 16" W x 8.75" D x 15" H), we will also
be offering limited editions of the Paia circle bag. We also have custom designed
re-usable bags coming made from sustainable fabrics such as, spun bamboo and
organic cotton.
Several artists have hand painted the one of a kind circle bags for our
first fundraiser. So far we have raised over $3,500 for the project!
This campaign is being organized be the
non-profit entity
of V dimension called,
"Fifth dimension" which is run by volunteers in
cooperation with the Paia Merchant Association.
